Un reticente aldeano une sus fuerzas a las de un misterioso extranjero para combatir fuerzas diabólicas, tanto terrenales como sobrenaturales, en una población minera de la China del siglo XIX. Cuando un forastero, Thaddeus, es hallado malherido junto a la aldea, el minero Li Kung (Dustin Nguyen) y su esposa Ah Ni (Eugenia Yuan) le acogen. Según va sanando, se involucra en el confl icto que enfrenta a los habitantes del lugar con el diabólico Master Ho (Carl Ng), su perverso clan y el aterrador Lord Pi (Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa). Con Thaddeus a su lado, el apacible Kung se convierte en un peligroso guerrero.
